You know when people just "get it?" They hear something and they understand. And from that understanding, they put it into practice. When we're talking about knowing God and hearing the gospel (which I am), well, those people who get it....Those are the world-changers.
Those who get it are the ones who hear, "This is true religion, to care for the orphans and widows in their distress" (James 1:27) and then they go out and they find the orphans and bring them into their homes and promise to love them forever & ever. Please read more about the adoption of their son Nolan here and the adoption of their daughter Harbor here. It is Harbor's adoption that ultimately got me out to Oklahoma to love this family. :)
Those who get it are the ones who read, "Imitate God, since you are the children he loves. Live in love as Christ also loved us. He gave his life for us as an offering and sacrifice, a soothing aroma to God" (Ephesians 5:1-2) and so they look at Jesus and they do what He would do. They look at how He loves, and WHO he loves, and they love everyone with fierce, loyal love. And I know this because I'm the recipient of that love, and I've seen them give it in incredible ways to those who are so often unloved. My heart aches to point you to this next blog post; the loss of Harbor's beautiful birth mama, whom Tyler & Madison loved so dearly and strongly.
Those who get it are the ones who learn to, "Place yourselves under each other’s authority out of respect for Christ....every husband must love his wife as he loves himself, and wives should respect their husbands." (Ephesians 5:21, 33) and they DO THAT. They see how Jesus lays himself down to the Father. So Madison respects Tyler with an utmost respect that empowers him to lead their family with truth and grace and joy. They see how Jesus loves the church, and gave his whole life for us. So Tyler loves Madison and gives everything he has for her.
These are the world-changers. And you know where that world changing starts? Right in their living room, surrounded by babies and dirty dishes and kids' toys and an insane amount of love for each other. Hearts on Fire, baby. It happens everywhere.
Oh and the slideshow that always brings tears :) Thank you for the song Josh Putnam!
